Synopsis:
Two FBi officers, John Green and George Stanhope are talking again to review progress of the investigation into the assassination event at the Lincoln Memorial. Amidst the early discussion about standard forensic evidence, both officers quickly come to the conclusion that there could be a dangerous conspiracy, including a ‘mole’ inside Federal Agencies.
“John loosened his tie, undid the top button on his collar and kicked off his shoes.
“This ain’t going to unravel quickly, George.”
“John, it’s good to have that ‘conspiracy’ theory crystallising so soon. We need to get David O’Donnelly on the case urgently working with the CSI results. He needs to chase harder for refinement of the DNA evidence we’ve got.”
‘George don’t worry! Really! Phoenix and I like to keep everything ‘in house’ as much as possible.’
George then announced he had taken an immediate, unilateral action of his own.
“John, let me tell you, you can’t deal with a ‘mole’ by ‘keeping everything in house’. I have emailed out to all our senior managers and investigators announcing that we have a ‘mole’ on board. That’ll smoke them out!”
From John’s point of view this immediately seemed a dangerous strategy for an Executive on his own.
“Look George you gotta be extremely careful. If this is a deep criminal or political ‘conspiracy’ there’ll be key targets. They’ll be able to flex and deal with emerging threats. That includes you and me, George. I don’t need to tell you George, you know all this by heart.”
George listened. He knew enough from John’s own level of practice and experience to give him that moment of respect and air space.
“George you ain’t listening, Charlotte’s already spoken to Tranter by phone.”
“Tranter’s identification painted a picture of a guy with grey hair, trimmed beard and a cockerel’s head tattoo on his forearm. Today, George, I’ve also found a candidate for our imposter. Cary Lightfoot has identified her father, Seth Soul. He has a cockerel standing on a weathervane, tattooed on his right forearm! What does that mean George? You’re the expert!”
“John, I hear you. It means we’re probably dealing with ‘Proud Boy’ membership in this case. A very serious risk! As you say, my kind of territory. I did a huge amount of work on the assault on the Capitol, January 6. All the more important I go to meet Tranter at the Memorial tomorrow morning. There you are, I knew we’d agree in the end.”
